The weekend excursion Cotopaxi-Quilotoa is one of the most booked by students at Ecole Idiomas Spanish School and Volunteer Platform in Quito - Ecuador.
The tour starts on Saturday, leaving Quito a 7am in private transport to Cotopaxi National Park. Upon arrival, you travel through the park and make your way up to the parkin area at 4500 meters. From here you can walk up the the climbing hut located at 4800 meters. Once you are back at your transport, the bikes will be waiting for you to start your thrilling ride down the mountain. Lunch will be served next to the lagoon Limpiapungo, from where the ride will continue to the exit of the park.
By private transport you will go to the hacienda Papagayo, where you can relax in the hottub and read a book near the chimnea.
On Sunday again an early rise, and after breakfast the journey continues to the beautiful crater lake Quilotoa, passing a breathtaking Anes scenary. The color blue of the water changes with the position of the sun. You can take the opportunity to walk down to the lake, and if you are too tired to walk up, a donkey will be more than happy to do the work for you! On your way back to Quito you will pass the indigenous villages of Tigua and Zumbahua, where a local market is held on Sunday.
